 New Medical Teaching Facility in South Wales

A new building known as “The Institute for Life Sciences” – (ILS) was recently opened at the University of Wales, Swansea comprising five floors of Research and Training Laboratories to advance the teaching of medical sciences in the Principality.

Network was invited to join the team of consultants and builders in a “partnering process” to design specific working laboratories to suit the needs of the various departments. Floor by floor analysis was carried out by holding a series of “workshops” with the users to determine the exact brief. Working alongside other specialists, the total laboratory environment was designed and subsequently executed within the building programme.

The new building has been well received and is working closely with both its neighbour, Singleton Park Hospital and a number of sponsors from within the related business sector. A second building “ILS 2” is planned to start being constructed early 2008.
Network is proud to have been able to make a contribution towards medical training in Wales.
